This succeeded and the software now starts without errors. Then I enabled 2D acceleration for the VM. Apparently this software uses hardware acceleration Initially the proprietary failed to start because of a "No overlay hardware present or available". I am able to control all individuals hardware from within the VM (camera acquisition, motor control). I have done a P2V for this laptop and it is booting fine in Virtualbox (especially after removing old drivers and installing the guest additions). On the laptop, there is a proprietary application (we have no installers) that controls a small robot- and vision-system. There is no support anymore for this XP-laptop (that came with the machine). I am trying to virtualize an old XP-laptop that is controlling a machine in our company.
